Iran Reports Tanker Incidents in Strait of Hormuz as Oman Rescues 25 Crew Members
Iran says multiple oil tankers were involved in mine-related incidents in the strategic waterway, while Oman confirms the evacuation of 25 sailors from a burning merchant vessel.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards Navy said several tankers encountered incidents while attempting to navigate what Tehran describes as unauthorized routes through the strait. Iranian statements said some vessels had struck naval mines and caught fire. Reuters reported that Iran later described a fourth tanker, carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil, as having struck a mine and caught fire.
These claims have not been independently verified. The identities and circumstances of all the vessels involved remain unclear.
Separately, Oman confirmed that its Royal Navy evacuated 25 crew members from the Panama-flagged merchant vessel RITI after it was targeted and caught fire near the coast of Musandam. Oman's Maritime Security Centre said the crew received medical care. The authorities did not identify who was responsible for the incident.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency also reported a separate incident involving a crude oil tanker struck by an unknown projectile while leaving the Strait of Hormuz. The crew were reported safe. It remains unclear whether this vessel was among those mentioned in Iran's statements or connected to the RITI incident.
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is a critical route for international energy shipments, with roughly one-fifth of global oil consumption normally passing through the waterway.
Any prolonged disruption could affect oil transportation, shipping costs and global energy markets. The latest incidents underline the continuing risks facing commercial vessels as tensions in the region remain high.
Breaking Global News will continue to follow developments as more information becomes available.
